Northwest Coast

Olympic National Park in Washington State is vast in scale - dramatic, grandiose, fantastic. As a photographer new to this part of the Pacific coastline my dilemma was how to focus my vision within this grandeur. What struck me most was the moody, muted atmosphere. Much of the time it was foggy; sounds were muffled; distances and depth were perceived as soft veils of air as in Chinese landscape painting. I was also struck by the mammoth redwood trees that had been logged and washed up on shore. They looked like the bones of giants.
